Our Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program – New Jersey
For your loved one struggling with drug and alcohol addiction, intensive outpatient services can be a convenient solution and affordable option for substance abuse treatment. Intensive outpatient treatment centers allow patients to receive counseling services during the day and then return home at night. For some patients, intensive outpatient treatment can be preferable to a stay at a residential treatment center, which can be more restrictive and expensive. Most of these programs occur 3-5 hours per day, several days per week.
As part of intensive outpatient substance abuse treatment, you’ll be expected to participate in various forms of care, including individual and group therapy, medication management, relapse prevention education, and more. The substance abuse services you’ll have access to will vary depending on which treatment centers you consider using, but generally, mental health services and strategies for healthy living are a significant component of drug and alcohol addiction treatment.
As you learn strategies for living a life free of alcohol and drug abuse, you’ll benefit from having access to a support group you can lean on when life gets stressful. The goal for all of our patients at Harmony Outpatient is to receive quality care and useful life skills that allow for a lifetime of sobriety and prepares you for the bright and sober future ahead.
How Do Intensive Outpatient Treatment Programs Differ from Partial Hospitalization Programs?
While similar to partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient treatment may require fewer hours spent receiving treatment. For instance, if you are seeking drug and alcohol addiction treatment through a partial hospitalization program (PHP), then you will still be able to attend treatment during the day and return home at night. However, a PHP might require you to spend more hours or days in treatment as a PHP may require 5–6 hours per day in treatment, 4–5 days per week.
How Do Intensive Outpatient Treatment Programs Differ from Outpatient Treatment?
Intensive outpatient treatment is typically a higher level of care than outpatient treatment. With intensive outpatient treatment, you’re spending several hours a day receiving addiction treatment services, whereas, with outpatient treatment, you might only receive treatment a few hours per week.
Depending on where you’re at in your recovery journey, outpatient treatment may be a good fit for you, especially if you’ve already gone through residential treatment and/or a partial hospitalization program for alcohol and drug addiction.
Who Benefits Most from Intensive Outpatient Services?
Individuals who have already attended some form of addiction treatment, such as inpatient rehab, or those with less severe addictions are good candidates for intensive outpatient services. Generally, this level of care is not recommended for patients who are likely to relapse, need a higher level of care, or have co-occurring disorders, such as a mental illness. Those with unique mental health concerns should consider seeking a higher level of care to get at the root cause of their addiction while prioritizing their mental and physical health.

Our team at Harmony Outpatient prides itself in providing the right level of care, no matter who you are or what kind of addiction you are struggling with.
