When you’re looking for the best treatment options for drug and alcohol addiction, it can be daunting trying to choose a program that caters directly to your needs. A wide range of services means that more individuals can receive the right level of care for their specific needs, but for some, it can feel overwhelming to choose the right level of care for yourself or a loved one.

At Harmony Outpatient, we are dedicated to helping you find an addiction treatment program in a welcoming and compassionate environment. One unique option for drug and alcohol addiction treatment is our partial hospitalization program (PHP), which allows you the benefits of intensive treatment with the ease and convenience of living at home instead of at a residential treatment facility. For the right individuals, a PHP can bring flexibility, responsibility, and the structure needed for a sustainable recovery from substance abuse.

What to Expect: Our Partial Hospitalization Program in New Jersey

A PHP is a high level of care where individuals are expected to attend the facility most days of the week for up to six hours per day. During this time,  patients can take advantage of outpatient treatment services, including individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, medication management, and more. Unlike residential treatment, patients can sleep at home and return home at night after completing treatment.

As part of substance abuse treatment, patients will be expected to participate in various forms of therapy to get at the root causes of their addiction and to develop effective coping mechanisms for handling alcohol or drug cravings. While patients undergoing partial hospitalization aren’t under constant supervision, they still benefit from the structure and support of this high-intensity outpatient program.

Is a Partial Hospitalization Program Right for Me?

Those who attend this level of programming at Harmony Outpatient are expected to be at a lower risk of relapse, have a supportive home environment, and have reliable transportation to and from our facility each day.

Many individuals attend PHPs after the completion of a residential program. This allows individuals to gradually “step down” in supervision and care while they practice skills they learned during residential treatment.

How are Partial Hospitalization Programs Different from Intensive Outpatient Programs?

Partial hospitalization programs and intensive outpatient programs are similar but vary in the level of care provided.  PHPs generally require more hours of therapy or additional days of treatment per week. For example, a patient enrolled in an intensive outpatient program may need to spend 4 hours a day, 3 days a week, in individual therapy or group therapy instead of the rigorous days those in a PHP program experience.

Our addiction specialists can work with you to ensure you are receiving the right level of care for your specific needs and recommend an alternative program if they believe your goals would be better served in a different program at Harmony Outpatient.

Who Benefits Most from Partial Hospitalization Programs?

Partial hospitalization programs can be affordable and more convenient for those who have already completed inpatient treatment but want to continue with a high level of care. Partial hospitalization programs can also be an effective course of treatment for those with less severe addictions who want to live at home but could still benefit from therapy and a supportive environment.

These programs may be an ideal fit for dual-diagnosis patients who are struggling with mental health disorders in addition to drug and alcohol addiction. This intensive treatment option allows patients to focus more on their mental health issues and learn healthy strategies for managing stress to avoid exacerbating their addictions, all while returning to the comfort of their homes at night to sleep.
