Harmony Intensive Outpatient Program

At Harmony Outpatient, we understand that addiction looks different to everyone. That’s why we provide a wide variety of programs that cater directly to your needs. Our intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) provide a unique level of support and compassionate care for those navigating drug or alcohol addiction.

IOPs provide services 3-5 hours per day for several days per week. This level of care is a perfect blend of intensive rehab work, and responsibility and flexibility. For those who are not at risk for relapse but still benefit from regular accountability and mental health services, IOPs prove to be an ideal solution.

What to Expect in Intensive Outpatient Services

Although very similar in structure to residential treatment programs, as the patient will often have to spend all day at the treatment facility, a patient in an IOP is able to go home after the session is over. Commonly, individuals participate in the following in this level of care:

  • Group and individual therapy sessions
  • Therapy sessions for behavioral health issues (both individual and in a group setting)
  • Monitoring of alcohol and drug use
  • Case management
  • Medical and mental health services
  • Life skills training
  • Educational groups and opportunities
  • Support group meetings
  • Access to 24-hour crisis management

Additional services may include nutritional consultations, physiotherapy, day-care services, career guidance and vocational training, anger management programs, and more. These services may be included in the IOPs to help patients re-acclimate themselves to society while maintaining their sobriety. Substance abusers often require communication re-learning and stress management aid. These programs aim to provide coping strategies and the help necessary to ensure long-lasting and sustainable changes in the behavior and mindset of each patient.

Mental Health: A Cornerstone of Intensive Outpatient Programs

At Harmony Outpatient, we believe that mental health and addiction are inextricably linked. That’s why we provide access to a wide range of mental health services for those undergoing this level of care, which may include individual counseling, family therapy, group therapy, and more.

Patients with co-occurring disorders such as depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, or eating disorders will require additional dual diagnosis treatment for those conditions. In most cases, 12-step meetings will be incorporated into the IOP, along with community-based peer support groups, group therapy sessions, medication, reintegration programs, and more. The key to treating these illnesses is to be compassionate towards the patient. The patient needs to learn to be sympathetic toward themselves as well.

A common issue that many people with addiction have is a lack of self-worth. When this occurs in tandem with addiction, it can cause myriad mental disorders to follow. These workshops will allow patients to learn to have faith in themselves and those around them, giving them hope and support to fight against the cravings. It is an effective way of reducing relapse and promoting sustainable sobriety.

Is an Intensive Outpatient Program Right for You?

For the right individuals, an intensive outpatient program can create a meaningful foundation for a future of sobriety. Individuals who benefit from IOPs include:

  • Those who have a supportive home environment to return to in the evenings
  • Those who are not at immediate risk of relapse
  • Those who have reliable transportation to and from the rehab facility
  • Those who benefit from rigorous mental health care services
  • Those newly sober or who have recently completed a residential program
  • Those who benefit from regular accountability and support groups
