Effective Help for Substance Abuse

PCP – also known as phencyclidine or angel dust – is a powerful hallucinogenic drug that can quickly lead to drug addiction. PCP addiction can be incredibly damaging, and finding a treatment center with experience treating PCP abuse is essential to making sure you or your loved one achieves recovery.

PCP Abuse

PCP use is not nearly as prevalent as the use of other illicit drugs. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, just 2.4% of the adult population has ever tried PCP in their lifetime, and less than 0.1% have used PCP in the last year.

With that being said, people who abuse PCP can still face severe consequences as a result of their substance use disorder and deserve the best PCP treatment program when they are seeking addiction treatment.

PCP use has several short-term and long-term health consequences that need to be addressed in the treatment process. Long-term consequences of PCP addiction include:

  • Memory loss
  • Psychosis
  • Depression
  • Weight loss
  • Anxiety
  • Trouble with speaking or thinking

Many people experience PCP withdrawal symptoms when they suddenly stop PCP use. The best PCP drug treatment centers will focus on alleviating these harmful consequences, keeping the person safe during treatment, and helping them build the skills for a long and fulfilling life in addiction recovery.

The Treatment Process

PCP addiction treatment options occur in several different phases. Our treatment providers focus first on helping people get past the physical effects of PCP addiction and withdrawals, then transition to working on building coping skills and strategies that can help people stave off drug cravings and impulses. The final stage of the treatment process focuses on long-term accountability, providing a safe place of support, and helping people thrive in their life in sobriety.

To accomplish this multifaceted approach to recovery, Harmony Healing Center offers several different levels of care to meet each individual’s needs.

Medical Detox

The first stage in any substance abuse treatment plan is medical detox. Our specialized detox treatment facility focuses on helping people work through the most difficult initial stage of recovery by easing physical withdrawal symptoms, avoiding medical emergency events, and providing a safe place for people to get off addictive substances.

Detox treatment for PCP addiction depends on the specific symptoms that a person in need of services requires. Medical treatment providers carefully track the detox process and pay close attention to a person’s physical health and emotional state. Specific medications may be used to help alleviate PCP withdrawal symptoms, such as anxiety, restlessness, and psychosis.

With 24/7 medical monitoring and support, a medical detox makes this first stage of recovery much safer and more achievable. But detox alone is not enough to create lasting sobriety; it must be followed by enrolling in a substance use disorder treatment program.

Outpatient PCP Addiction Treatment

Outpatient treatment is the next step in our comprehensive PCP addiction treatment program.

During outpatient PCP drug treatment, our clients begin the true work of recovery with certified addiction professionals and mental health providers. They receive the best evidence-based treatment methods for helping people recover from addiction, including services such as:

  • Individual therapy
  • Group therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Relapse prevention programs
  • Medication-assisted treatment
  • Life skills training

Together, these treatments work to teach the skills needed for a lifetime of PCP addiction recovery.

Compared to inpatient treatment, outpatient treatment options are designed to support people as they continue their routines instead of in a bubble. People attending our outpatient treatment center apply the tools that they learn every day in the real world and get practical experience and professional treatment advice in the situations where it matters most.

Outpatient treatment occurs at several different levels of care. These several distinct stages are designed to offer intensive care services as well as less demanding options for people with busy schedules. In order of most intensive to least restrictive, these treatment options include:

Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP)

PHP is designed for people who require intensive therapies and treatment and is typically offered immediately after medical detox for PCP abuse. People in a partial hospitalization program attend treatment at a rehab center several days a week for many hours at a time to get help for their PCP addiction.

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP)

IOPs offer all the same services as PHPs but require less time investment on the part of the client. People can enter straight into an intensive outpatient program after detox, or they can step down from a PHP when they feel more confident in their mental health and sobriety.

Outpatient Programs

Outpatient programs are the least restrictive treatment option available. People in outpatient treatment attend addiction treatment facilities just a few times a week for a few hours at a time. They still receive group therapy with a professional treatment provider, individual mental health counseling, and substantial support, but they have more time to find work, keep up their family obligations, and spend time with their friends.

Aftercare Programs

Aftercare programs provide ongoing support and accountability for people who have graduated from our substance abuse treatment program. This extends the time that people have access to peer support groups, group therapy, and assistance with supportive medications.

While it is not the same as formal addiction treatment for PCP abuse, aftercare programs have been associated with a lower risk of relapse and a higher likelihood of long-term sobriety.

Which Program Is Right for Me?

When first looking for a rehab center, it can be difficult to choose a treatment provider. Best treatment practices suggest that everybody start at a medical detox facility to overcome PCP withdrawal symptoms, then transition to lower levels of care as they feel more confident in their sobriety.
